Closing the achievement gap through parent education and quantitative linguistic feedback: The use of LENA Start® to improve the home linguistic environment and parental knowledge of child development

Summary:

This study examines whether parents who participate in the LENA Start program increase interactive talk with their children, and whether parent knowledge of child development relating to the number of words and conversational turns is increased. The study looked at outcomes from 46 parents of children aged 1 to 30 months over an 8-week period of participation in the LENA Start program implemented by a public library in Iowa.
