Introducing LENA Home 2.0 – Easier to deliver and more accessible!

By

On May 17, we’re excited to roll out a new version of LENA Home that makes the program easier to deliver for home visitors and more accessible for caregivers. LENA Home is designed to add an early language focus to existing home visiting initiatives, and offers clear, built-in progress monitoring for caregivers, home visitors, program administrators and other key stakeholders. It was initially launched in 2013 with a small pilot of of eight families. Over the years, we have refined and improved the program, and now, factoring input and feedback from our LENA Home partners around the world, we’re ready to launch LENA Home 2.0.

What’s new in LENA Home 2.0?

Redesigned online dashboards provide instant (and reportable) insights into the impact of the program overall.Top-level data show participation rates and the percentage of families increasing conversational turns. Detailed dashboards provide more information on the status of each family and their progress over time.

A fully revised Coaching Guide offers session-by-session guidance for delivering LENA Home. Up to 13 sessions can be delivered weekly or every other week, depending on schedule and needs. Four initial Core Sessions teach the importance of early talk and how to use LENA. From there, up to eight Language Enrichment Sessions target specific daily routines as times for increasing talk. Optional hands-on activities provide an opportunity for additional modeling and practice if time allows.

Each session is fully scripted, with the option to be delivered as written with little advance preparation or the flexibility to incorporate additional content. Summaries provided at the beginning of each session help manage session preparation and wrap up in a simple to-do list format.

A refreshed online library of videos and printable resources have been updated to align with the revised curriculum. A searchable online knowledge base helps navigate frequently completed tasks in LENA Online.

Over the next few months, we’ll be rolling out parallel changes in Spanish, including a translated Coaching Guide.
