Staff retention and stress reduction:
Bringing positivity (back) into the classroom with LENA Grow

Staff retention and stress reduction: Bringing positivity (back) into the classroom with LENA Grow

On demand

Duration: 59 minutes

What can we do in the here and now to keep our best educators in infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms? For one, we can rediscover just how wonderful classrooms can be.

We'll hear from teachers and coaches about how LENA Grow's focus on interaction has transformed their classroom experience. Children engage more, challenging behaviors become less frequent, and educators regain a sense of connectedness with the children in their care. Our panelists will talk about how LENA Grow provides:

  • Versatility and alignment. It's a way for educators and coaches to reduce stress by addressing multiple objectives from multiple assessments and observations, including social-emotional development, behavioral concerns, and language development.
  • Inclusivity. It's a way for educators to learn how best to increase quality interactions with individual children in their classrooms.
  • Quick results. Coaches are reporting having helped teachers identify solutions for increasing conversational turns and decreasing challenging behaviors in individual children within just a week.

What has it meant to implement LENA Grow during the COVID-19 pandemic — the benefits, the struggles, and the net effect on educators?

Panelists:

  • Stacy Petty, Director of Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Council, Colo.
  • Sandy Stolze, Coach at Marathon County Child Development Agency, Wis.
  • Judy Berdan, Teacher at Marathon County Child Development Agency, Wis.
  • Colleen Haddad, LENA Advisor for Child Care Strategy
