There’s been no shortage of news about early childhood education — the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s development, the unprecedented stress facing teachers, the crisis within the early educator profession, and the hope promised by the White House’s Build Back Better framework. Amid these high-profile news items, however, there’s also a prominent challenge facing early education professionals that keeps a much lower profile: the return of in-classroom QRIS assessments.

Some states use CLASS assessments, while others use Environmental Rating Scales (ITERS, ECERS, FCCERS), state-specific observational tools, or a combination of tools. Early education professionals — teachers, center directors, early learning coaches, CCR&R coordinators, and others — must prepare for these assessments in difficult times.

Join us for a discussion with a LENA partner in North Carolina, Alamance Partnership for Children, about how they’re helping the centers and family child care providers they serve:
  • How do they foster confidence among teachers and directors as they prepare for classroom assessments?
  • How do they shine a light on quality adult-child interactions while also striving to earn or maintain a high rating?
  • How do they transform assessments from high-stakes, performance-driven evaluations into opportunities for strength-based analysis, self-reflection, and professional development?
  • What role is their implementation of the LENA Grow program playing in these efforts?
