Stephen M. Hannon is the President of LENA and is thrilled to lead a team of talented people on a mission to close the achievement gap. He brings a wealth of technical and leadership skills spanning a 20-plus year career.
Steve played critical and strategic roles with laser radar touchstone Coherent Technologies, Inc., extending from its early days through its acquisition in 2005 by Lockheed Martin. He is a recognized expert in lidar—optical remote sensing, and statistical signal processing—and applies this expertise to other sensing technologies and systems. He served as the chief architect of the WindTracer® pulsed Doppler lidar and spearheaded its commercialization and global marketing and sales initiatives. His work led to first-of-their-kind installations at airports and other public and private sector facilities around the world. To pursue his passion for turning disruptive technologies into sustainable products and businesses, Steve departed Lockheed Martin in 2011 to found Mind the Gap, LLC. After consulting and tending to his golf game, he joined LENA in 2013.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with highest honors and prestigious Bronze Tablet distinction from the University of Illinois and Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has served as a mentor to budding entrepreneurs at the University of Colorado and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking.
